Snorkling Andros Island

Andros Island is Wonderfully Natural
It’s said that Andros Island is “The Bahamas’ most extraordinary natural wonder.” The wonder starts with the earth’s third-largest barrier reef along its shores. Beyond the Andros barrier reef is the mile–deep Tongue of the Ocean abyss, which is rimmed with coral at the drop-off, then filled with pelagic species such as marlin and sharks, plus whales and dolphins. Underwater caves filled with water, perforate the island of Andros.
On this Bahamian island you’ll find a series of oceanic versions of blue holes. These caverns and caves reach deep into the dark shadows of the earth, mixing fresh and salt water. In the light that surrounds these entrances to the blue netherworld, life gathers in battalions. In about 20 feet of water, coral gardens form a ring around the holes. There, dozens of stingrays frolic; swarms of French grunts and lumbering Caribbean reef sharks amble past; schools of jacks swirl and circle over the entrances; and barracuda hover over the scene.

This proximity is ideal for excellent world-class sportfishing. We are not talking about just your run-of-the-mill fishing, we are talking about tournament-style fishing. Private Casting Lessons
$75 / Hour
Taking a fly casting lesson is a lot like taking a golf lesson. It isn’t absolutely necessary, but it certainly can help get you on track allot faster than you eventually figuring things out on your own.
A one-hour private casting lesson is $75. For beginners, I usually spend 15-minutes or so on the assembly of tackle and a few basic knots. Then, we move on to the basic pick-up and delivery of line, along with false casting and shooting line. A two-hour lesson is the optimum length and costs $150. This includes an analysis of your casting stroke, and exposure to the roll cast and double haul. Experienced fly fishermen can also benefit from a casting lesson, especially if you want to increase your casting distance, learn how to deal with the wind, or begin to fish in saltwater
Casting lessons are fairly informal and scheduled. A private lesson is a great way to improve your fly casting skills and usually a lot of fun.

Andros is known for its signature straw craft available in most settlements, particularly Red Bay and the Fresh Creek area. You can also take home freshly harvested sponges, wood carvings of miniature racing sloops and other distinctive collectibles created by local artisans. But the island’s signature product is Androsia—a colorful, locally made batik – a colorful Bahamian hand-dyed cotton fabric, with designs inspired by elements found in the island’s environment and Bahamian culture.
The art of basket weaving has been passed down through the generations among residents of the small Red Bays settlement in North Andros. Red Bays’ baskets are crafted from the top stems of silver thatch palms, locally referred to as ‘top’. The top is dried, stripped, and then sewn into beautiful, sturdy baskets and straw accessories that have many uses. These uniquely styled baskets are crafted nowhere else in The Islands of The Bahamas, or the rest of the world, and are part of the rich cultural legacy of the Black Seminoles of Red Bays.
Browse the shelves while Mr. Gordon Higgs works hard at chipping and carving beautiful hand made structures from mere wood. His work is very detailed, neat and realistic. His skill is completely mesmerizing . These authentically carved items are definitely one of a kind and are a must have for every collector.

My first time bonefishing was amazing. The ladies were at the lodge were very nice and took great care of us. They even had Orvis rods that we could use. The lodge is right by the beach and is nice and quiet. We slept great and the food was awesome.

Just returned from a week fishing at Eva’s Bonefish Lodge. I have fished all over the world and I can unequivocally say Eva’s is just about my favorite. Fishery is outstanding, as are the guides, the lodging, the food and the staff. Be ready for lots of shots at big, big, voracious bones. I caught at least four bones per day, none less than four pounds, and my largest was 8+.

Just got back from Eva’s and had an incredible time. My brother and I came down looking to get into bonefish. I was blown away with how many bonefish are on their flats. The service was second to none. From our guide Lavardo to Mrs. Wendy and the chef Renaldo we felt very welcomed. If you’re looking to catch bonefish and have an authentic Bahamas experience then I highly recommend Eva’s. Plenty of fish, excellent food, and top notch service.
